Do not use the rapidwinder (or baseplate) without the "basket" installed.
This "basket" is really called a "film positioning disc" and it positions
the film so that the film's sprocket holes line up properly with the
camera's sprocket wheel. If it is not in the correct position the film will
not advance correctly (maybe even jam) and  the sprocket wheel will tear
chips off the film. These chips make their way inside the camera and havoc
generally ensues.
