I have a recumbent as my wife has very severe arthritis and cannot load bear on her wrists. I build my own single wheels but let the "Tandem Gods" build as they know best. I have seen both strong 36h tandem wheels and shredded 48h/ 5c and I think skill, low dish (I prefer no dish) and smart component matching are the most important. On topic is the picture I have showing the absolute delight in my grandma's face as she is riding on the back of the recumbent; her first bike ride in many many years and her last as she left us just a month ago.
