No joke, and I reckon that the electric tape will come off nicely when needed. As to the lettering round the lens, that could be more of a problem to get it completely clean. I do it to shoot people at very close range, and all that white stuff is too visible. The minilux becomes an ugly little box, and hard to notice, if you "touch it up" a little. Seems a small price to get a little closer to the pictures I want to take. Bernard
