Yes, you have to replace the whole shell as the vulcanite is applied to the shell by some process or other involving goo and heat. I was quoted $500CAN for a new shell (part only) which, of course, would require a major camera disassembly to install. The replacement leatherette cover for my M2 cost $150CAN installed with shipping. I thought this was a reasonable price.
