I have never had a problem photographing the indigenous people of Central
America but that is probably because I am accompanied by people from the
grass-roots development programs who work with the communities
regularly. They may not know me but they know the people I'm with and they
understand that we are there to try to help improve their living
conditions. Being able to stay for several days and live with, work with,
and eat with the people also results in better photos than a "shoot and
run" expedition. They also know that I will be returning and bringing them
copies of the photos. I always take a formal, posed family portrait just
for them. The Golden Rule still works in most situations!

Leically,

Tina
