Yea- buy a new printer ya maroon
Sad but true- The MIS/ LYSONIC inks are twice the cost of Epson OEM inks,
and the paper is out of sight- try $70 for 29 sheets in some varieties. If
you want to use your printer for something besides photos you can't just
switch the ink cartridges and if you use the duotone set you can't print
color. All this being said it is very hard to set up a new profile for these
inks as they do not go into any of the Epson Profiles.
The good news-Epson is coming out with a printer that uses archival inks and
papers OEM. Sell your printer to some unsuspecting soul, and buy the 870
which will be out in two weeks for $300. It has a finer spray head. Sounds
like a dumb solution but the older printers (I have a 1200 only 2 months
old) will not support the new media. You will not believe the expense
involved with the aftermarket companies, but more than that the work
involved tweaking the printer profile to be just right. Go to the Epson site
and check out the new printer then check out the Lysonic products and some
of the prices on archival paper, it looks cheaper to just buy a new printer.
Anyone want a slightly used 1200?
