Thanks to all regarding the M6 vs M4 + meter opinions. An M6 sounds the
best way to go for right now.

The other day at Samy's Camera in Los Angeles, I tried an M6 with a new
35mm summicron. I did not spend too much time, but I was surprised when
I played with the diaphragm ring: it felt like the f-stops were
'jumping' from one to the other rather. My tele-elmarit 90 feels tighter
and smoother. Is this normal?
