Subject: [Leica] A footnote on lens hoods

A brief footnote about the "extensible" lens hoods on the latest M
lenses--when I was using my latest-version 50mm Summicron-M, the one
with the extensible hood, I discovered that the tiny cylindrical
screw-in hood for the new 50mm f/2.8 Elmar-M works fine on the Summicron
as well. It's smaller in diameter than the Summicron's extensible hood,
which extends neatly OVER it, but I never saw any evidence of vignetting
(and I would have, since I print full-frame). I felt that the screw-in
hood offered better protection and I never had to worry about it getting
pushed out of place like the extensible hood. I'm sure the Elmar hood
can be ordered as a replacement part (although I shudder to guess at its
cost, _pace_ Bob McEowen).
