Yup!

During a visit to the Chartres Cathedral several years ago, I used 
the tabletop as described - - but with by back braced against a 
pillar.  I was able to get some interesting shots of the Black Virgin 
that way. I was able to get additional shots within the Cathedral by 
placing the tripod against a wall or a pillar.    The only problem 
came in avoiding the several priests that roamed through the edifice 
whose job was to discourage photography. (Don't take your photos - - 
buy our slides in the Gift Shop!)
