Subject: [Leica] (OT)Yikes! Apple/Hacher Problem/Important

Hello if you are running OS9 or OS8.6 and are hooked up to a DSL type, high
speed, and always connected internet provider you should update your
software to prevent some one from using your computer to attack another
computer. Here is the site URL:

http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n11559

And here is the text of the Read me file with the update:

"OT Tuner 1.0 switches off an option in Open Transport that would cause a
Macintosh to respond to certain small network packets with a large Internet
Control Message Protocol (ICMP) packet. This update prevents Macintosh
computers from being the cause of certain types of Denial of Service (DOS)
issues."

This software will not be installed automatically by "Software Update" and
the update was released on the 28 of December.

Here is a copy of the site text. Please act on it if affected. This is a
SERIOUS issue:

Release Name: Open Transport Tuner Version: 1.0
Release Date: 12/28/99
Language: English-North American Document #: 11559
Download
OT Tuner 1.0.smi
     MacBinary - 175 K
    Binhex - 238 K

Description
OT Tuner 1.0 switches off an option in Open Transport that would cause a
Macintosh to respond to certain small network packets with a large Internet
Control Message Protocol (ICMP) packet. This update prevents Macintosh
computers from being the cause of certain types of Denial of Service
(DoS)issues.

This tuner is only recommended if you are connected to the Internet all the
time and have a static IP address. If you obtain your IP address dynamically
(from DHCP for example) or if you connect to an Internet Service Provider
via a modem, your machine is not likely to be involved with DoS issues.

Important: After the OT Tuner 1.0 is installed, changes in the network
configuration may require a system reboot in order to reestablish a network
connection. A further update to Open Transport is planned to rectify this
situation.

To install, drag the OT Tuner 1.0 file to the System Folder (the tuner will
be put in the extensions folder for you). Then restart your Macintosh.
