You are right about the text, but the only reason is that these are such 
HUGE enlargements. Either the lens' couldnt resolve that detail or my  
enlarger lens ran out of steam... My aim was to see if at incredible 
magnification you could see the difference in resolution.

I could not.  I was just like you Mark...I absolutely refused to believe a 
zoom could compare...my world got rocked a bit.

So where does a fixed lens better the Vario F4?  In speed and in distortion.

As I mentioned the barrel distortion from 60-70mm makes the lens unusable 
for any archetechural work in that range.
