Subject: [Leica] M5 photocell question

Hi, M5 users.
I have a question about the photocell of M5s.  It contains something like a
spring in front of the CdS.  What is it for?  I would assume it is for
diminishing oblique stray light....and not for making that little lovely
sound when the photocell jumps from the bottom. ;-)   Thanks.
