[Author Prev] [Author Next] [Thread Prev] [Thread Next] [Author Index] [Topic Index] [Home] [Search]Buzz, You're right, of course, that the "best lens" can hardly be defined in a vacuum. I believe I stated in my initial inquiry that I was happy in general with my R8 system--an understatement, I love it--but I am contemplating a limited M6 outfit for people pictures indoors, especially pre-kindergarten children in their classes and casual stuff taken at adult social events. All amateur, all for the love of it and for the pleasure of the school and the parents of the young toddlers. Since the school has generous fluorescent lighting mixed with incoming window light, I anticipate that I will choose B/W over color for the classroom photos. Thanks for your comments.................Julian - ----- Original Message ----- From: Buzz Hausner <Buzz@marianmanor.org> To: <leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us> Sent: Wednesday, December 15, 1999 3:24 PM Subject: RE: [Leica] Lens choice--sole lens for M6 I for one actually agree with Marc and usually suggest a 50 as a first lens for anyone starting out in 35mm photography, regardless of the body. The strand of this thread which has gone un-addressed is the question of what format and lenses the poster has already used and what preferences she or he has already developed. This "best lens" question comes up a lot and the responses are fairly predictable. In the future it might serve everyone better if the person posing the question be asked some additional information on experience and preferences before we all go off in rhapsodic fugues about our own favorites. Okay, perhaps not fugues, but unedited encomia. Figure out what >YOU want to use, what your style calls for, and match that. My choice >would quite possibly not be yours! > >Marc Marc, When I wrote the above quoted text I spoke only for myself. I promise you, I have NO DOUBT that the 35 f2 ASPH would be my choice as my one M lens. That's what the original poster asked for - informed, first-hand opinions. As for the "more than a few of us" would you please show me the proxies that make you their spokesman? And who the hell are "a few of us" anyway? Whoever they are I'm perfectly happy for them to use any lens they wish! Y'all have fun! Anyway - boring is as boring does. You're right - one size does not fit all. Very Best Regards, Henry Ambrose P.S. Marc, do you know anything about focal plane shutter Hasselblads? Like the 2000s and the 200 series.
