Konica always made a suprpisingly good 45/50mm lens. They used a Planar-type copy in their older rangefinders. Ironically I collect these and have all the Konica RFs from occupied Japan on through the S2. Best lens is found on their IIIM circa 1957 (50mm F1.8) and Auto S2 circa 1968 (45mm F1.8). I can understand the 28mm and perhaps the 90mm Elmarits bettering the Konica. Konica once made a 28mm for their SLRs but it was a F3.5. It was a very good lens. They also made an 85mm F1.8 which I thought to be among the sharpest 85mm lenses I have yet seen (this includes the current Leica, Nikon, and Canon). It is a very interesting issue, with a cover theme of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. In addition, there is a comparison test of the Hexar RF vs. the M6. Their conclusion concerning the bodies: inconclusive, depends on one's preferences. Perhaps a bit of a cop-out, but the review is really well reasoned, and they are careful to consider all pro and cons. As for the lenses, they conclude that the Konica 28mm is clearly inferior to the Elmarit 28mm, the Konica 50mm is equal to the 50mm Summicron, and while their tests showed hardly any difference on the bench between the Konica 90mm and the 90mm Elmarit, they comment that on the light table, all three testers were able to pick out the slides taken with the Elmarit. I recommend this issue to all French-speaking LUGgers.
