That is a fine idea -- those Leica binoculars do the sort of stuff
with trueness and saturation of colors we Leica freaks have come to
expect.

May I suggest -- unless she needs that little extra bit of dim-light
moxie the larger glasses can provide -- that the medium-sized 8x32BA
glasses are a standout in the line.  Every bit as good as -- perhaps a 
bit better corner-to-corner than -- the *x42 glasses, but much handier 
to tote around and comfier in the hand than the bigger glasses.  And
they focus usefully closer than the 8x42BAs.  Birders love 'em.
