Thanks in advance for your thoughts. <<< Terry, It's probably because there's absolutely no linkage between the lens' aperture ring and the camera body. All the aperture ring does is stop down the aperture; you still get accurate exposures because the meter reads the amount of light that the film will see. It doesn't bother me because I know that when I'm using the 400 (or 560) the aperture is f/6.8 - I never stop these lenses down. If you use Program mode with this lens, it's effectively the same as Aperture priority because the camera body has no control over the aperture.
