I have a mint 400 mm f/6.8 and when I mount it to my R8 I get hardly
any information in the viewfinder display. Additionally, in my R7 all I get

the computed shutter speed and, on the left, the symbol for the program
mode I
have chosen; thus, no aperture setting confirmation in either body's
viewfinder. Frustrating, to say the least! Is this perhaps because of the

of this lens' bayonet mount? Or something else? Thanks in advance for your

Terry,

It's probably because there's absolutely no linkage between the lens'
aperture ring and the camera body. All the aperture ring does is stop down
the aperture; you still get accurate exposures because the meter reads the
amount of light that the film will see. It doesn't bother me because I
know that when I'm using the 400 (or 560) the aperture is f/6.8 - I never
stop these lenses down.

If you use Program mode with this lens, it's effectively the same as
Aperture priority because the camera body has no control over the aperture.
