Monarchy is not that unusual; Americans tend to focus on the British royal family and forget that many of the other Western, democratic countries are also constitutional monarchies (e.g. 7 of the 15 EU countries). There are many good arguments for separating the function of head of state from that of head of government, which I would be happy to discuss in private if you wish.
