Jonathan, You are right, it is a good portrait lens, but only if you use a good
lens hood with it.

before I found a good hood for it, I had a fair amount of flair.  Now I use a
105mm hood for a Pentax 105mm screw lens together with a 48 to 49 mm adapter
ring. This worked well, no vignetting. Similar with the Cannon 135 f3.5 chrome
lens, I use a 135mm hood
from a Pentax 135 f3.5 screw lens with the same adapter.
These lens hoods are very efficient. They are metal, not rubber , look good and
are nice and long. Both of them, I picked up from the odds and sots box in a
couple of photo shops. They don't seem to be rare and are reasonable priced. I
think I paid around $5.-
for both of them.
