Lets say, for example, that you take you M6 (or any M) and a 35mm summilux ASPH current model. And, one of the new "cheap" 35mm ltm lenses. You go to the drug store or supermarket and buy a roll of Kodak Royal Gold 400 speed print film. Now, you go to the park to take pictures. You shoot all 36 pictures. Picture number one is of a tree with the Leica lens and a small sign in the picture with an "L" on it (do this so you can tell which pictures were taken with the Leica lens). The second picture is the same shot with the "cheap" lens on your body. The second set of shots is of a person, etc. You do this for the whole roll. All shots are hand help at about f4. Now after you finish, take the roll of film to the supermarket and have it processed. When you get the pictures back, I doubt that there will be any significant difference in them. If you do the same test with slow speed pro film, use a tripod and have it processed at a pro lab you may see a significant difference. If you shoot slides you may see a difference. The point is that you do not need a $2,500 lens if you are shooting prints and having them processed at the supermarket or drug store. Your money would be much better spent by purchasing a second body and a second cheap lens and you would still have enough left over to take the wife out to dinner. (At which time you can explain to her about all the money you saved by purchasing the second body and lens). To put it another way, you don't need a 4,000 pound Mercedes SUV if you live in Florida and all you do is drive two miles to the grocery store...a Toyata will get you there and back just fine...and for much less money.
