I'm glad I'm a "Texan". - -----Original Message----- From: Lee, Jonathan [mailto:Jonathan.Lee@hrcc.on.ca] Sent: Thursday, September 30, 1999 11:11 AM To: 'leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us' Subject: RE: [Leica] OFF TOPIC, "Americans" People who are from the continent of North America are not Americans. That distinction thankfully belongs only to those who live in the United States of America. Calling a Canadian an American is an insult since we percieve ourselves as being more polite, more civilized and more tolerant than Americans ;-). Which is the main reason why we had to sack Washington and burn the White House back in 1812. Q. What's a Canadian? A. An unarmed American with health care. Q. How do you get 300 angry Canadians out of a room? A. You ask them. [snip] > Not this little black duck. When asked "Are you an American?" my only possible answer is "No". Simply sharing the continent of North America doesn't make us all Americans. This appellation is, through common usage, applied only to citizens of the USA. Would you expect a citizen of Peru to answer in the affirmative? After all they live in South America...
