No, I just stick with the indicated exposure. The important part is "the highlight
in which I want to retain detail". The principle is to avoid blank film; with
negative film, this means making sure that the shadows receive sufficient
exposure, and with positive film, that the highlights are not overexposed. Of
course, this only applies to non-specular highlights.
