Christian-
Is the Elmar an M mount? I would assume that it would be at the price you
mentioned as I got an almost mint LTM Elma for about $260 a while back. It
is a nice lens, and on the LTM or the M3 it makes a very compact outfit! On
the "downside"- I would suggest a shade for the Elmar- and I say downside as
they can be a bit pricey! There is one, a simple clamp on, and one with a
notch that engages the aperture lever- so you don't have to turn the camera
around to change f stops! Either works well for what you want it for!
The Elmar's front element is hanging WAY out there! If a shade isn't used,
you may wonder if it really is Leica glass! Very easy to get flare- but
performance improves greatly with a shade! I know there are those out there
who say that the older glass is obsolete, but both the old and newer Elmars
has quite a few fans. If you do enlargements not bigger than say 8x10 or
post to a website, the charm of the Elmar stands up to more modern lenses
very well!
You'll like the M3; I decided to keep mine- and it didn't take a whole lot
of cerebral wrestling to come to that decision! It was and is near the
pinnacle of Leitz camera workmanship, it is one of the few cameras of that
age that you can still get fixed, should it break- which ain't likely! and
if you do want the newer glass- well, I don't think the "M" mount is going
tobe obsolete anytime soon!
Best of light to you, and good 'shooting'!
Dan
