The solution will no doubt be the same as the winder. Totally discharge before recharging. NiMH, by the way, does not suffer memory in any case. That's why Nikon chose to go that route for the F5. Besides, when did Leica ever stop making parts for cameras until at least decades afterwards? (Not counting point and shoots). If there is a demand, they'll keep making them, or come up with a substitute.
