It certainly is. You can make any claim you like, but without an 
attribution or a source it is without value or meaning. Rather like saying 
"the moon is made of green cheese" on your web site without bothering to 
justify the claim.

You know it's funny, people (including some on this list) make pejorative 
assertions about the ethics of professional journalists, yet even the most 
*junior* of junior interns knows that you don't just pluck claims out of 
thin air and publish them as truth. Even if you *do* succeed in slipping 
such a claim past an editor, you most certainly don't resort to an ad 
hominem attack when asked for supporting evidence.
