I have a LOT of trouble swallowing this. Leica knows exactly how much it costs the competition to make lenses, and knows the profit margin the competition must charge to stay afloat. If there was any "shock", it would have been over the decision not to charge more for a lens which obviously would sell wonderfully well, as it has absolutely no real-world competition. In other words, Leica may have been surprised by Cosina's decision to elect to make less of a profit. But Leica certainly knows what Japanese production costs are.
