The SL has a coarse microprism center spot that is very good for seeing the image "pop" into focus with long lenses. The SL-2 center spot has a split-image wedge, one half of which can go dark at apertures smaller than f5.6, making focusing with the split mage difficult. I prefer the SL-type screen for use with my 400 and 560 f6.8 lenses, which are focused at the working aperture. The SL-type screen gives more precise focusing when you have time to use the center spot. In sports photography with rapid moving action, I have no strong preference since I am usually using the general screen area to focus. Mike Swiek
