Yes Philip, there is a Santa Claus!
There is a Canon made adapter known as 'Lens Mount Converter B,'
which was made for adapting Canon FD's to screwmount Leicas. Combine 
one of these with a Leitz screw to M converter and you have a 
mounting FD lens. I have used an old FD on my Leica III: there is no 
rangefinder coupling, but you can focus to infinity.
