Much of this discussion begs the question, Why if photo related products are 
so unprofitable, do the likes of Nikon, Canon, etc., stay on it? Is it the 
Japanese obsession with maintaining market share? Is it pride, corporate or 
national?

I don't have the answers, but having competed with the Japanese, 
(successfully) I am curios as to your thoughts.
