Thanks for all of those paper and ink suggestions! No clear consensus
has emerged, so it looks like I may have a good deal of experimenting to
do in the future! Products mentioned thus far include: Luminos Velour,
Museum Parchment and Gallery Gloss papers, Konica QP paper, Lumijet and
Lyson inks

For black and white images with "hand-tinted" effects (done in
Photoshop):
Arches Cold Press

For watercolor effects:
Concord

And for color, but not black-and-white work due to tone:
Epson #41141, Ilford and Kodak papers. I have tried samples of the Epson
paper and think they have a quality feel to them. The base is a little
on the cream-colored side. My first two prints on this paper look very
much like they were printed from KR64 originals, but in fact, one was
EPN and the other E100SW. I was using the Generic E-6 input profile when
bringing in the images from PhotoCD and made no attempt to adjust the
color of these first two prints. I've not found color profiles designed
for specific films. Maybe I should photograph a MacBeth color chart,
have THAT PhotoCD'd from my favorite films, and use that as a reference!

In addition, I have purchased, but not yet tried, Great White Glossy
Photo Paper and Epson #SO41072 Photo Quality Glossy Film. Great White's
paper is billed as acid-free, with a brightness rating of 93. It seems
kind of thin, and not too smoothly coated. The Epson film appears to be
thin, supple sheets of plastic, and very uniform. More on these later.

I've used Canon and HP inkjets for years, but this Epson Stylus Photo
1200 is a new beast to me, and the issue of refills is still kind of
puzzling: I can buy bulk inks, but I'm not supposed to remove the
already-installed cart 'till it's empty, but I shouldn't wait that long
to refill, and I don't think I can refill it in place, either! What to
do? So far, I've found no prefilled 3rd party color or grayscale ink
carts for the 1200; I'm hoping that it's simply because it's a new
model, and that I just need to be patient!
