I use a Norman studio flash setup and it would not work on the R8 unless I
used an adapter to drop the voltage down to something the R8 could handle.
I took a multimeter across the sync cord and I think it was over 90 volts,
which is way over the 24v max of most modern cameras.  I think my R8 also
worked once or twice before it would work only with the adapter to drop the
voltage.
