Simon,

Mine did the same thing. Apparently it's a historic problem with these
lenses. The front assembly is glued or lacquered or something in place.
My mistake was using the lens shade to grip when mounting or dismounting
the lens. Anyway, a quick trip to Ms. Krauter and it was re-glued and is
performing flawlessly.
