A means Afnor, the French standardization organism (like ASA). A0
is a sheet having a surface of 1 square meter with the long side
of the rectangle being the small side * square root(2), that is
841 * 1189 mm. A1 is AO folded by the half of the large side,
that is 594 * 841. And so on to A10. So A4 is 210 * 297 mm.

For those who still use a measuring system coming from the Middle
Age :-), an inch is about 25,4 mm.

perhaps a dumb question, but I keep running into "A4" size
prints, etc, etc.  What are the "inch" equivalents to these
"A-series" size prints?  Can someone clarify this?  Are these
standard "European" size prints, and if so, does the "A" stand
for anything??  Thanks, Kent
