I have used Leica cameras since I was 19 or the year 1961 to put it in
perspective. I like to shoot people and I shoot on the streets of Cincinnati
on a regular basis, not in the best neighborhoods either. I also get to
Europe occasionally and do most of my sightseeing on foot. A Leica (M6) does
not bother people much for whatever reason. I don't shoot people at arms
length but rather maybe 5 feet away. I find most people are somewhat
flattered to have their picture taken even though they aren't quite sure why
you are taking it. I haven't been hit yet anyway. Leicas are small, quiet,
absolutely dependable and the photographic quality of the end product cannot
be denied. As Mark mentioned Leica dominated the photojournalistic world for
several decades. As cheaper more dependable SLRS can on the market Leica
usage declined. If you can get the job done with a tool half the price then
use it. (I guess) I will continue using the Leica System as it meets my
requirements fine. I take pride in what I do and enjoy using the finest
tools to do it with.
