Subject: [Leica] Dr. Blacktape Recants

Dr. Blacktape has some recanting to do:

Having sung the praises of his recently purchased Serenar 35 2.8, and having
boldly challenged his fellow LUGers to find the Serenar images in his latest
posting of photos, Dr. Blacktape has made a sad discovery - he was
incredibly lucky with the first job on which he used the Serenar.

Dr. Blacktape has sadly discovered that if the light isn't JUST right -
angle, intensity, etc. - the Serenar SUCKS. Sorry, the Good Doctor is loath
to use such a crude descriptive term, but it certainly fits. Flare? You want
flare? You want muddy images? Try an old LSM Serenar without a lens shade
under less than ideal conditions and you'll have FLARE. Interesting flare,
perhaps - but flare none the less. Flare you won't get with a 35 Summilux
ASPH.

Ah well, so much for saving money by buying 40-year-old optics.
