[snip] Perhaps it's worth pointing out that - for the same subject distance - the 75mm used at f1.4 has a significantly *shallower* DoF than the 50mm used at f1. If you focus a 50mm f1 at 10 feet (for example) the DoF is about 8.6 inches. With the 75mm f1.4 focussed at the same distance it's about 5.4 inches. If you come closer with the 50mm to frame tighter - say to 2/3 distance - then the situation reverses, and the 50mm f1's D0F is down to under four inches. Obviously the exact figures depend on the value you choose for the CoC. David Morton dmorton@journalist.co.uk
