I read at the site of one pro who often uses 28/2.8R that the new one works better in close-ups (supposedly as a result of floating elements) but that the difference is marginal. He also commented that the older one is a real bargain in terms of performance/market price. I have been speculating that the old one's rigid hood works better than the newer built-in one in outdoor shots. I am very much interested in knowing more about the differences in the actual performance between the two lenses.
