Hi Richard, if the lights were caused by the filter, they would be "upside 
down"  and in focus with the same plane as the light causing the reflection. 
  This is most common in night shots of neon writing..Using a filter in 
night shots is not reccommended.

If the lights are just background out of focus images, shaped like your 
diaphragm, it is normal...If you had used a Nikon or Contax the lights would 
be perfect pentagons..and even more irritating.
