Jena", but when you remove that ring, there is another underneath with the markings mostly ground off. But you can partially read "Carl Zeiss Jena ....ar". In my ignorance, I guess I'd always assumed that the first few letters were "Plan". But it's perfectly reasonable that they could have been "Biot". You can just see the top of the B or P and that's it until you get to "ar". Is there no such thing as a Planar design with these specifications? In terms of focal length range, what does a Planar lens design imply? You referred me once before to someone who could repair this camera. It needs a complete overhaul and a new shutter curtain. It is functioning properly, but the shutter has been worn so thin that you can see light through both curtains. Would you mind forwarding that contact again? Also, can you provide a pointer to more info on this historic camera? Thanks very much. - --Jim Laurel - -----Original Message----- From: Marc James Small [mailto:msmall@roanoke.infi.net] Sent: Tuesday, May 11, 1999 11:00 AM To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us Subject: RE: [Leica] Shutter Burn. Nice lens: the same lens is still produced in Russia under the Helios label. Marc msmall@roanoke.infi.net FAX: +540/343-7315 Cha robh bas fir gun ghras fir!
