I know you are right!=20 BTW that reminds me of an event during the 1973 Photokina in Colgne. A = Belgian stood at the Leica booth and had his ancient Leica IIIf repaired. I told = him he should buy a new one. He looked at me and asked "Why?" He then told = me that he was a designer by profession and he always took a photo of his = new designs. That old Leica had been to the Belgian Congo several times. Of course that old Elmar 1:3,5 /50 had not been corrected for color-film, but as long as the publishers of his magazine = did not complain, why then buy a new one? Best regards: Peter - -----Urspr=FCngliche Nachricht-----=20 Von: Hans Pahlen=20 An: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us=20 Gesendet: Sonntag, 9. Mai 1999 15:54 Betreff: SV: [Leica] Old ./. new lenses Peter, welcome to the LUG-list! Yesterday evening I was watching some 25 years old slides from Paris. = I used a Summicron 50 DR and Kodachrome 25. I was amazed by the quality! = Most pictures were made using middle apertures. =20 This is my personal view: Go on using your 1970:s lenses. You can = trust them to deliver very good quality pictures. The only difference is = that the newest lenses will be better on the largest openings. Why not = upgrade only one lens, the one you use most, and keep the others. I upgraded to the 35/2 asph, and it is definately better wide open, = but that is all. On other F/stops the difference is very marginal, and = hard to see.=20 =20 In short: it depends on how much avialible light photography you do, = and if you need the highest possible performance, all the way out into = the corners. It is your decision, but remember that the 1970:s lenses are damned = good! Why not spend your funds on travel and film?=20 /Hans=20 =20 <I am new to this list, but I am old leica fan. I own a M3, M4, M5, = Summicron 35, 50, 90, Elmarit 135. <2 Pradovit 250 Autofocus combined = with a DU 24M, etc. Everything bought in the 70 except the M3 <which I = bought a few months ago. (I always wanted to work with a M3!) >>> Do you think a can sell my lenses and buy new ones, those with APO = and ASPH? Or, to be <precice: Can you really see the difference???
