Lens manufacturers like Tokina use Anhydroxous Ethly Alcohol. This alcohol
is not available to consumers. While you can use any pure alcohol (methanol
is not a bad substitute), you can also use acetone which is also an
excellent cleaner providing you only wipe it on the glass. It can dissolve
some cements so care should be taken.
For the consumer there is actually a very good cleaner from Photographic
Solutions called Eclipse Optical Cleaning Solution. The name recently
changed from Crystal Clear. The product is 100% pure alcohol and
recommended by Tokina and Hasselblad.
You can read about them at http://www.photosol.com/crystal3.html. Very
inexpensive too!
