I have made hundreds of tungsten carbide bullet making dies over the years and found that if the finish is too smooth (2-3 microinch AA) the metal jackets tend to stick while a finish of 4-5 provided a surface in which a trace of lubricant could find space and the bullets would almost drop out of the die. Surface finish is very use specific and the finest surface finish is not necessarily the optimum for every application. Industry spends millions of dollars determining the surface that is most satisfactory for a specific application and then goes to great lengths to duplicate that finish. My current project that I just started this morning is modifying a base plate to I may use the Leica cassettes in the M-6's. I love the cassettes and load them with Tech Pan and the various microfilms and want to use them in the M-6. I cannot believe Leica leaves the top plate of the M-6 cameras bare. In comparison with the old M series cameras that have elegant engraving on the top plate the M-6 cameras appear to have been finished by a 7th grade shop class. Well, gotta go with the kids.
