I've used the 14256 with the 60, 280 (f/4.8), 400 and 560 (f/6.8) and if you can get that close to the animal the backgrounds are obliterated. There is also a 60mm extension tube made for the 400 and 560 f/6.8 Telyts that fits between the lens head and mount tube that will give you twice the extension of the 14256; with this extension tube and the 400 I've made full-frame photos of hummingbirds at 6' (2 meters).
