Not surprising at all. The only Leica lens to compete with the 80-200 made 
by Kyocera is stunningly good, the 70-180 Vario Apo Elmarit R, the best 
zoom lens that exists for consumer purchase. (I know hardly anything about 
movie lenses by Panavision and such, except they are - were? - made in 
Midland at the old Leica plant. The old Zeiss 80-200 f/4 that might compete 
has been out of production for a long time).

And the 28-70 was introduced along with the RE, and both described as an 
inexpensive way to get into the Leica system. All things being relative, of 
course. :-)
