The product is not yet on their website. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- BW1201 FEB 16,1999 5:13 PACIFIC 08:13 EASTERN ( BW)(MA-POLAROID-CORP)(PRD) Polaroid Announces the Fastest, Highest Resolution Slide Scanner On the Market; SprintScan 4000 Delivers Twice as Much Image Information in Less Time Business Editors and High-Tech Writers CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb 16, 1999--Polaroid Corporation (NYSE: PRD) today introduced the world's first 4000 dots per inch (dpi) film scanner that produces scanned images in under one minute. As an addition to Polaroid's award winning SprintScan line, the SprintScan 4000 is a high-performance scanner that scans professional quality 35-millimeter slides, filmstrips and Advanced Photo System (APS) film formats without compromise. The SprintScan 4000 produces high quality output with a true optical resolution of 4000 dpi and an optical density of 3.4, making it the highest resolution and most productive scanner on the market. While competing products deliver a 2700 dpi image with a 3.2 optical density in under a minute, the SprintScan 4000 will deliver a 4000 dpi image with a 3.4 optical density in under a minute -- twice as much information without compromising the speed. "The unprecedented specifications on the SprintScan 4000 bring a magnitude of improvement and technological advancement over current scanners in the market," said Steve Furstenau, senior product marketing manager, Polaroid Corporation. "Customers will be extremely pleased with the SprintScan 4000's high resolution, speed, and automatic film handling, sharpening, focus and color correction for professional quality at an affordable price." For fast and easy film handling, the SprintScan 4000 provides a system designed for automatically managing multiple images. A user can utilize the automatic advancement of a six-image position filmstrip or the four-image position mounted slide holder. In addition, an optional APS roll film handler provides APS and unattended batch scanning of up to 40 images. These automated film handling features augment the scanner speed to give users the most productive scanner on the market. PolaColor Insight Pro Software The SprintScan 4000 is bundled with PolaColor Insight Pro software. This innovative software provides a simple user interface that is ideal for basic and advanced scanning tasks. It automatically removes and eliminates surface flaws such as dust, scratches and fingerprints, and features split screen preview and automatic image sizing and saving scan settings. In addition, the automatic enhancement controls, combined with the power of full professional image adjustment tools, allow the user to get optimum brightness, shadow detail and overall color from a scanned image. With PolaColor Insight Pro software, users can save images on the PC in .Tif and/or .BMP or on the Macintosh in TIFF, PSD and/or JPEG file formats. In addition to PolaColor Insight Pro software, the SprintScan 4000 is bundled with Adobe PhotoDeluxe. Availability, Compatibility and Pricing The SprintScan 4000 will be available in the US in March through authorized Polaroid dealers and catalogs. The optional APS adapter will be available in June. For the Windows environment, the scanner software includes a PCI based SCSI card. The suggested US list price of the new scanner is $2,495. International prices may vary, and can be determined by contacting the regional Polaroid office.
