I think the problem lies in the flush windows of the M6 being more susceptible to flare. The windows on older cameras were recessed and seem less vulnerable to flare problems. The other problem is dirt on the windows themselves. The flush windows are very easy to smudge and this cuts down on the clarity and contrast of the viewfinder. You must keep the windows scrupulously clean for optimal viewing and focussing. Earlier M's suffer from a build up of dirt and fogging in the viewfinder. Have this cleaned professionally and you'll be amazed at how bright and clear the viewfinder image becomes. Bill Rosauer
