I had the E48 90 f2 summicron....mint- condition...WONDERFUL lens.....BUT the new 90 f2 is 40% shorter and nearly half the weight of the old one....so I sold the old one and bought a "new" (used/boxed) one.... Optically, there is no visible difference....mechanically, I suppose the "new" one is less rugged, far inferior finish to the old one.....but - here's the catch - MUCH<MUCH lighter and quite a bit smaller.... However, this is NOT the case with my late 60s 35 f2, or my 80s summicron 50...there is NO size/weight advantage, and no (again, usable-photographic) optical performance gain...therefore, I've not seen any reason to upgrade those lenses..... If I upgrade, it'll be to FASTER (inferior) lenses!! for the extra stop.... Cheers, Walt
