However - If you are now starting from scratch, and can afford to do it, I would DEFINITELY go for the ASPH. I made the switch and I have never looked back. The ASPH is bigger and heavier, although not compared to its typical SLR competitors. But the added sharpness at the maximum apertures, as well as the lack of flare, make it the lens of choice. If I could only own one lens, the 35 Summilux ASPH would be that lens, no question at all... - -----Original Message----- From: owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us [mailto:owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us]On Behalf Of Chandos Michael Brown Sent: Monday, February 08, 1999 9:16 AM To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us Subject: Re: [Leica] 35 Summilux I have a 35 Summilux. I use it most frequently on an M4-P. It's a fantastic lens (there're a couple of images on my website using the Summilux). I'm sure that there are good reasons to buy an aspherical--I just don't feel the need. I use it for general purposes--though I press the wide apertures a lot. I don't think that you can go wrong. I have the second to the last pre-aspherical model. The lens hood is a bit fragile and expensive to replace--that's the downside as I see it.
