With all due respect, you may be surprised to see how far things have come
in a few years. MegaVision has a great product and more on on the horizon.
It is only a matter of time, and far far less than 50 years. I would say 5
to 10. Remember, it was IBM's Advanced Computing Systems Division in 1968
that commented the following on the microchip. "But what ... is it good
for?"

There is more R&D in digital than ever before. All the film companies are
in it, and there is also a SONY Cinema Camera that uses Videotape (ISO 500)
for cinematography. Sorry Jim, but I think you are way off here.

Well... being in the middle of that technology, actually designing the next
generation digital camera electronics ( www.photoaccess.com ) I can say,
without much reservation, that there are monumental problems associated
with digital completely replacing film within a mere 50 years. About 20
different disciplines will have to make "quantum" leaps in their technology
in order to directly compete with and replace film. Also, digital cameras
require lenses. Lenses at least as good as those we have today. Plastic or
not.
