Dear LUG members,
I use a Linhof Profi-Port tripod when I travel. It has sturdy aluminum
legs in an open-channel design. It is short enough to fit in a suitcase so
you do not need to check it through by itself in a padded bag. The
Profi-Port is a bit short for me, but it was the smallest serious tripod I
could find about ten years ago (before the carbon-fibre tripods were
available). The Profi-Port easily holds a Leica M or Rolleiflex or Fuji
6x9, and I have used it with a Tachihara 4x5" field camera (on a day
without wind). My model is aluminum color with tan fittings; the recent
ones I have seen are black. I only paid about $100, but now they are much
more expensive.
For the head, I use the Linhof Profi II ball head. It is wonderful for all
35 mm cameras with short lenses (less than 200 or 300 mm) and medium-format
cameras.
