Subject: [Leica] the 50s again

i'm looking for advice on older version 50s. i currently use a
50 1.4 summilux-m 376xxxx on a M3 or M6. i'm quite happy with
its performance but friends have suggested trying some of the
earlier generation 50s because i shoot only b&w.

apparently, there is some intangible quality in these lenses
which they are unable to articulate yet swear it's there and
not in the newer models. is this true? if so, which make and
generation.

i don't really care about lp|mm or other technical specs
because i'm not really good enough to tell the difference.

in addition to the 50, i also use the 35 2.0 ASPH summicron,
28 2.8 elmarit, 75 1.4 summilux and a 90 2.8 elmarit-m.
all are current generation, i use them all the time and i can't
say a negative thing about any of them.

is there really some b&w magic in an older 50?

tia for any advice,
fritz
